José Mario "Pepe" Alas (July 18, 1979) is the creator of the first Filipino blog in Spanish: Alas Filipinas. The website was launched last January 1, 2007.

Pepe Alas was born in Lucena City, Quezon, but spent most of his life in Parañaque City. His father is of Spanish-Tagalog descent, and his mother is of Moslem-Bornean origins. He learned how to read at the age of three, wrote his first poem in English at age 11, and his first play at age 12 (all of which were lost).

Pepe began blogging in 2006 on Friendster. But his first foray into real blogging was when he was invited by JB Lazarte as a contributor to the latter's popular humor blog Skirmisher. His first post was on June 19, 2006.

He is a call center agent at night, and a historian/writer during daytime. His interests lie in everything that is Philippine: literature, culture, languages, entertainment, etc., especially history. He is married and has three children, with another one on the way. He now resides with his family in San Pedro Tunasán, La Laguna.

The Alas household speaks three languages: Spanish, Tagalog, and English.
